Before & After: Coastal Home with a Modern Lanai Design Decorilla Online Interior Design

lanai design

Offering the space a nautical vibe, you'll surely appreciate the captivating shape and gorgeous copper-colored exterior. Surround your lanai with lovely natural life by opting for climbing plants. You can choose a single plant or opt for various flowers and vines. The more they grow, the more stunning both the plants and your lanai will look. Adding plants to your lanai can make the space look even more beautiful than it already is and smell just as good if you opt for fragrant flowers.

Savvy Tips For Decorating Your Lanai

In a broader sense, all these structures have the same underlying building foundations and are located outside. So if you also are looking at your lanai and feel unhappy with its current state…you are in the right place. Today I am going to show you some of my all-time favorite Lanai decorating ideas that are going to make you want to spend all your time in your lanai. Decorilla emerged in 2010 when a group of passionate interior designers envisioned a platform to connect clients with top-notch design expertise.

Interior Signs Of Roof Damage: What To Look For + Next Steps

Chances are your home's lanai gets an abundance of sunlight during some part of the day. For this reason, choose your furniture with sunlight exposure in mind. You can use outdoor furniture or furniture upholstered with fade-resistant fabric so your colors stay fresh and vibrant. Look for styles that still work well for interior spaces and take this opportunity to select a sleek or modern design that will help your lanai appear thoughtfully updated.

Protection from the Elements

This large porch has beautiful stone tiles and a rustic fireplace. The difference between a lanai and a porch is that porches can be found in the front and back of the house, whereas lanai porches are on the backside. If you already have a patio and want to add value to your home, turning it into a lanai would be beneficial.

Additionally, consider factors such as exposure to sunlight, wind direction, and views when determining the most suitable location for your lanai. Enhancing your outdoor living space is a fantastic way to make the most of Florida’s unique climate and lifestyle. One particularly popular outdoor living feature among homeowners in the Sunshine State is the lanai. Use a sliding glass door for your patio entrance to create a seamless feeling between living spaces. This creates a nice flow from the inside room into the outdoors and makes your interior feel more prominent.

Types of Lanai Designs: Finding the Perfect Fit

Open lanais are perfect for those who want a truly open-air experience and live in areas with mild climates. With lighting that comes from beneath the seating area, the glow illuminates the white wood floor softly, beautifully, and effectively. Adding a soft glow to your evenings in the lanai, candle lanterns can be gracefully suspended from overhead structures or artfully grouped together on a table.

Naturally resistant to weather elements, teak boasts longevity, requiring minimal upkeep and giving a timeless aesthetic appeal. Its rich, warm color can seamlessly blend with your lanai’s tropical look. Introducing a variety of tropical plant arrangements instantly breathes life and adds charm to the lanai.

A lanai is an opportunity to bring vibrancy and rich color to your home. You can get away with more daring color choices in spaces like sunrooms, lanais, and patios, so lean in and try the color you have longed to introduce to your interiors. Saturated greens, rich blues, and vibrant corals work well in lanais, whether on walls, furniture, or small decor items. Contemporary interior design is a mixture of modern and traditional. It’s warmer and cozier than modern, but also fresher and sleeker than traditional designs.

Infused with coastal decorative influences, they create an inviting retreat to relax and connect with nature in style. The client’s image gallery was curated to provide interior designers with a clear insight into their ideal. Thirteen narra and mahogany trees surround the house, all of them taller than the roof deck. The open aspect of makes the lanai design visible and connected, rather than removed, to the interior spaces of the home.

If you have finished your lanai and want to move on to the next section of your house, then you can check out some of these ideas here. To maximize the airy flair and underline the coastal ambiance, a white armchair is strategically placed by the window. This allows for moments of peaceful contemplation and an escape from everyday life, all while enjoying breathtaking porch views. Drawing the attention upwards, two tall built-in bookshelves flank a floating TV cabinet, establishing visual balance at the same time. These shelves not only serve as functional storage for favorite reads but also add an element of contemporary sophistication to the coastal home decor plans.

The concept of lanais can be traced back to ancient civilizations, where they were used as gathering places for socializing and enjoying the natural surroundings. In Hawaii, lanais have deep cultural roots and were traditionally used as open-air spaces for relaxation and entertainment. "It’s the ultimate family hang out space," Simonds says, explaining that oftentimes, a lanai will feature furniture typical of an indoor lounge space as well as a television. The lanai pictured above even includes a dining table perfect for entertaining, and colorful artwork graces the walls. This lanai adds a stylish touch that doesn't compete with the stunning surroundings by using intentionally faded wood.

Trendy Halloween Nail Designs:

Whether you attempt a freehand drawing (here’s an easy tutorial) or rely on stickers, this look is sure to make your nails a hot talking point. From the moon to the crystal ball, use a striping brush to draw a witch’s necessities to the best of your abilities. A solid white mani with drips of blood combines two classic manicure hues in a gruesome way. Tie-dye is slowly emerging as the nail trend of the summer — Kylie Jenner even posted her take on the look a few days ago.

Flying Spirits

We love the almond-shaped style and how the curves mimic those of the flames. To craft your flames, use a toothpick or polish pen to outline your flame and then gently fill it in. This mismatched mani totally gives subtle The Nightmare Before Christmas vibes. The Jack Skellington-esque, black and white striped French tips and the dramatic swirls are our fave. If Frankenstein went to the salon for a manicure, he would definitely get this look.

For an extra dose of spooky, add glow-in-the-dark polish to your design of choice. These neon jack-o'-lanterns will be the talk at any party you attend. There's no better time to ditch your traditional manicure shade in favor of bolder, more creative nail art than Halloween.

With black French tips and a clear background, these witchy, spider web nails are—dare we say—chic? Consider them proof that a great French mani can be tailored to any occasion. This simple nail art reminds us just enough of the 90s horror hit Scream to become slightly spooky.

Black & White Designs

Still keeping with the '80s but with a more subtle finish, this negative space mani with delicate pops of color is the ultimate inspiration. If it's Scream, then you need to bookmark this mani for your next appointment. Wavy, black and white striped French tips compliment the spooky portrait of Ghostface and his weapon of choice.

Whether you’re a Gryffindor or a Slytherin, fans will enjoy this HP-themed manicure for the season. While you can try your hand at painting on the designs yourself, we also found a cute nail stamp to deck your nails with a magical touch. Swap the carving tools for a brush and some polish instead.

Spooky Disney

Combine two of Halloween's creepiest motifs — spiderwebs and splattered blood — with these ultra creepy nails. These stunning designs will make anyone want to howl at the moon — each nail showcases a different moon cycle, from crescent to full. These may look tricky, but you can try them at home with a sponge stamp and a steady hand. If you aren't one to shy away from edgy looks, a pointy, glossy french tip on coffin-shaped black matte nails looks so cool — and it's totally unexpected.

Begin with basic designs and gradually work your way up to more intricate patterns. Creating eye-catching Halloween nail art doesn’t necessarily require a trip to the salon. Remember to pamper your nails by avoiding harsh chemicals and using gloves during household chores. To extend the lifespan of your spooktacular designs, start with a solid foundation.

If you want to take spiders to a new creepy level, copy this negative space manicure that looks like spiders crawling over your nails. Just be sure to have a bottle of nail polish remover nearby for touch-ups. The clean lines paired with black and white tones make this nail design just witchy enough. Nail artist Elizabeth Garcia created this manicure look, leaving us questioning how she ever got those lines so straight and perfect. Our guess is nail striping tape, like China Glaze's Stripe 'Em Striping Tape ($10).

Grab a matte top coat and apply it over a color of your choice to leave a satin finish that’s not pure shine. It’s not Halloween without the “Pumpkin King,” so let each nail highlight a character from the Disney movie. Whether it’s Jack Skellington, Sally or Zero, this design can be recreated using a thin brush to get all the details. "Clean and simple lines to sail into summer are most popular," says Mary Lennon and Leah Yari, co-founders of côte.

Almond shaped press ons and different sizes of fine detail brushes can be used for this along with any shades of white and pink you want. Jack O’Lanterns, bats, spider webs, mummies, ghosts dressed as devils — this design y @nails.by.pk really has every Halloween creature you could ever need. Stencils and thin nail art brushes will be your best friend while drawing these. This is the perfect time to get a cute, spooky or hauntingly cool Halloween-themed design on your nails.

The signature stitching paired with a candy apple red French tip is a fun twist on the classic bright green we think of when monsters come to mind. Glam and gloom meet with this elegant, spider web French tip nail design. We love the addition of the silver crystal, which gives the impression of a glistening dew drop falling from a wet web. There’s nothing in the rulebook that says you can’t display all of your favorite things about Halloween on your nails at once. Use any of the ideas above to create a festive mix that showcases why it's the best holiday of the year.

The exhibition features emerging and well-established artists in drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, fiber, action figures, sculpture, and performance. It reveals the impact of place in shaping the identity and practice of artists working in landscapes with deeply shared histories while uncovering the common threads and examining the similarities of parallel narratives, cultures, and heritage. The Bath House Cultural Center’s art galleries showcase artists from Dallas and all over the world.

(Full Moon) GongPlay® Soundbath – May 24, 6pm

Our individual and philanthropic involvement rewards, incubates and benefits emerging and established artists. Through our conservancy funding of this landmark building, we have created warm, vibrant and inviting spaces that make the creative arts approachable to all who visit, encouraging conversation, exploration and enjoyment. The former Lincoln Street Bath House is one of just four municipal bath houses still standing in Chicago. The city built 19 public bath houses between 1894 and 1918 because indoor plumbing and bathing facilities were not common in urban dwellings at the time.

Upcoming Events

The partnership between the cultural center and Mr. Vargas has become a consistent and anticipated event in the local arts scene. In 2024, El Corazón continues its tradition of providing a platform for artists to showcase their work and engage with a diverse audience. The exhibition is a testament to the rich artistic landscape of the region, fostering community and creativity among participants. As stated by the Curators, “Through our series of exhibitions titled Son de Allá y Son de Acá, our goal is to bring awareness to the Chicano/a and Latino/a creatives living and working in underrepresented and marginalized areas. We aim to bridge art communities, create awareness of new voices, foster communication, increase opportunities, and expand our understanding socially, culturally, and historically between artists across state borders. This cross-border exchange highlights the shared historical and socio-political ties between states within the U.S.-American Southwest, predating the Spanish conquest to current complexities at the U.S.-Mexico border.

Each attendee gets to use premium crystal rods during the sound bath to amplify the experience. We provide everything you need to be comfortable – yoga mat, bolster, pillow, and eye mask. In this event, we layer recorded sounds & live shamanic drumming with gongs and crystal singing bowls.

The festival serves as a showcase for various Dallas independent theatres without a permanent home and has become a signature event for the Bath House Cultural Center. "People are getting more and more interested in Japanese culture," says Executive Director Kazumi Teune. "Our mission is to share the Japanese culture in Philadelphia. People are embracing shogun culture, anime, samurai, sake and it's all here. Throughout the year we have programs that celebrate the Japanese culture." "The setting, the architecture, it's all there to convey a sense of feeling," Polyakov says. "The idea of peace and emptiness and quiet beauty were very important in 16th-century Japan. These traditions have carried on for hundreds of years, including today."

Our, Dallas Garden

In August of 1981, the citizens of East Dallas celebrated the birth of the City’s first neighborhood cultural center. From ancient civilizations to the present day, artists have been drawn to the symbolic richness and emotional resonance embedded in depictions of this universal symbol. Contemporary artists, including the fifty-nine that are featured in the 2024 El Corazón show, continue this tradition by incorporating the heart into their creations, adding their unique perspectives to the ongoing narrative of its significance in art. Last week we put out a call to hear about Black-owned museums, galleries, and art spaces that we might not know about and as of this writing, there are twenty-three spaces on our list.

Soundbath Training Los Angeles – Aug 24 & 25

The Friends of the Bath House Cultural Center promote the Center into a regionally recognized influence in the cultural arts.

In addition to the art sale, there is food, music and a silent auction. Built in 1930 on what were then the rural shores of White Rock Lake, the “Old Bath House” was one of the first uses of Art Deco architecture in the southwest. The building provided lockers, changing rooms, rentable swim suits and concessions for the thousands of people that drove from all over North Texas to swim in the lake. The 116-seat Bath House theater is home to many of Dallas’ finest theater companies.

It presents exhibits and over 200 performances, concerts, festivals, workshops, lectures and other events per year. The Bath House Cultural Center is the first of six neighborhood cultural centers built and operated by the City of Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs. It is located on the east shore of White Rock Lake in east Dallas, Texas (USA). The Bath House remained a social and recreational hot spot for over two decades, but was forced to close in 1953 when swimming in White Rock Lake was discontinued. The majestic building sat vacant until 1978 when, urged and supported by a dedicated group of neighborhood arts activists, the City of Dallas announced plans to restore the building.

Located on the eastern shore of White Rock Lake Park, the Bath House Cultural Center houses a black box theater, an indoor/outdoor lake level stage, two gallery spaces, and a multipurpose classroom space. In addition to exhibitions, our calendar includes gallery talks, lectures, workshops/classes, demonstrations, summer camps, and performances in a wide range of visual and performing arts disciplines. The Bath House Cultural Center and Dallas curator and artist Jose Vargas are collaborating once again in 2024 for the El Corazón exhibition. This annual show, now in its 29th year, features the contributions of Texas artists working across a variety of media.

Chicago Park District took over operation of the city-owned bath houses in the 1970s. Today, the building has been carefully renovated into an upscale community and business meeting space after serving as a private residence for decades. The monumental main room has been redesigned as a serene yet functional space complete with state-of-the-art audio/visual capabilities and a deluxe catering kitchen.

Participants report feeling more physical sensations and dropping into a relaxed state quickly. We provide everything you need to be comfortable – a yoga mat, bolster, pillow, and eye mask. The Bath House Cultural Center is open Tuesday-Saturday from 12 to 6 PM. In 1958, it was donated to Philadelphia where it has stood as a cultural center, museum and beautiful destination ever since. California Jazz & Blues Museum4317 Degnan Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90008WebsiteIt is a long-established fact that California Jazz & Blues Museum has long been considered one of the most important jazz locations in music history.

We want to see these numbers grow and our goal with compiling this list is to facilitate growth and awareness in the L.A. Arts Community as well as make these spaces more accessible to those who want to find them. We will continue to add resources — bookmark these venues, submit a space, and check back for updates. Breathwork SoundLab™ is a powerful fusion of rhythmic breathwork and a sound bath. This experience sparks mental and emotional clarity, physical relaxation, and expanded awareness.

Universal Design for Learning Supports Distance Learning for Deaf Students

Make sure that children in your classroom feel comfortable and safe bringing their whole selves—including their race, heritage, gender identity, and disabilities—into your classroom and address bias. One simple but effective way to do so is by stocking your classroom library with books that reflect your students’ diverse backgrounds and experiences. Plus, they’ll become more familiar with the flexible tools and strategies available to them.

Encourage Student Participation

As noted above, there is no set order in which to apply the Guidelines; the way we apply UDL is driven by our instructional goals and barriers present in the curriculum. Yet, we recognize that many people use this document as one way to begin their learning about UDL, and we have found that considering ways to reduce barriers and increase access can be a useful entry point. Therefore, in this most recent representation of the UDL Guidelines graphic organizer, the “access” row of the Guidelines is presented first. We hope that this representation will support educators who are new to UDL to explore this critical step. When principals embed UDL into a schoolwide approach, its benefits are evident for teachers and students alike.

The difference between Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and traditional education

However, as with any approach to teaching, it is critical to assess whether or not it is appropriate for your students and modify it as needed. It would help if you also remember that UDL is a framework and not a curriculum, so you will need to develop your own lessons and activities. Differentiating instruction is another crucial way to use UDL in your classroom. This means providing students with different levels of teaching and support based on their needs.

Tips for Educators

Promising lines of research include work identifying the specific practices that are critical to meeting the challenge of individual differences—research that has been amassed over decades and by many different researchers. These studies are labeled as “promising” because they appear to fit within the UDL framework, but they have not been tested in a UDL environment or using the framework. It is important that these practices are studied within a UDL environment for them to be considered effective UDL practices.

Provide Multiple Means of Engagement

For example, imagine a lesson in which your students read about the stages of butterfly metamorphosis and then draw a diagram of the process. This lesson has three main objectives — to have your students read, learn the stages of butterfly metamorphosis, and draw a scientific process. To analyze the goal, you need to identify the primary objective for this part of the lesson.

Universal Design for Learning Supports Distance Learning for Deaf Students

The core of UDL lies in its three main principles, structured around engagement, representation, and action & expression. These principles encourage educators to offer multiple ways for students to become involved with their learning, understand the information, and demonstrate their knowledge. In the realm of linguistic diversity and challenges, UDL's flexibility is a key asset. It allows students to access materials, engage with content, and showcase their understanding in a manner that aligns with their individual language capabilities.

Representation

Start by offering multiple options for teachers to interact with the content. Books, podcasts, videos, and discussion groups offer choices that align with personal preferences and offer variety in learning. Allow for feedback through multiple methods such as online surveys, exit questionnaires, team and one-on-one meetings, and journaling.

Implementation initiatives in the US

Phuong and Berkeley, using a randomized controlled trial, found that AEP, which is based on UDL, led to a significant improvement in students’ grades, even when several confounding variables were controlled for. I won’t pretend it’s easy, but it’s crucial to commit to the UDL mindset in order to have success. Embracing the following four beliefs is the first step in designing learning experiences that serve all students. The goal of UDL is to use a variety of teaching methods to remove any barriers to learning. It’s about building in flexibility that can be adjusted for every person’s strengths and needs.

Provides Inclusive Learning Environment

I realized that many students needed clearer directions, checklists, and check-ins, so I created systems within our classroom to address this. Teachers can encourage high school students’ success by focusing on learner variability and creating customizable learning experiences. The UDL Guidelines are a tool used in the implementation of Universal Design for Learning. This approach to teaching or to workplace training doesn’t specifically target people who learn and think differently. But it can be especially helpful for kids with these challenges — including those who have not been formally diagnosed. UDL is a powerful approach because from the very start of your lesson, it helps you anticipate and plan for all your learners.

SplashLearn is the perfect balance of learning and game-play that your little one needs to build math and reading confidence. Many resources are available to help you learn more about UDL, including books, websites, and articles. An excellent place to start is the UDL Center’s website, which provides various resources, including an overview of UDL, how to get started, and case studies. You can also find helpful information from the National Center for Universal Design for Learning (NCUDL).

UDL supports all children, including infants and toddlers with disabilities, to help them engage more fully in learning. It doesn't take the place of individualized curriculum modifications necessary for particular children. For more information on individualized curriculum modifications, see these helpful Curriculum Modifications resources.

For example, closed captioning is often used in noisy places like restaurants and airports to help everyone follow what’s being said on TV. Even if you’re not familiar with the term universal design, you’ve likely encountered it in your everyday life. Common examples include automatic doors and dictation tools on smartphones. This session featured Gaston College and McDowell Tech faculty and staff as they explored Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles and practices.

By providing text alongside audio narrations, video supplements, and interactive models, educators apply a versatile mix of formats that tap into different learning pathways. This not only makes content accessible for individuals with disabilities but also allows for a broader range of cognitive entry points for all students. Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is a way of thinking about teaching and learning that helps give all students an equal opportunity to succeed. This approach offers flexibility in the ways students access material, engage with it and show what they know.

SplashLearn inspires lifelong curiosity with its game-based PreK-5 learning program loved by over 40 million children. With over 4,000 fun games and activities, it’s the perfect balance of learning and play for your little one. UDLA trainings support the lesson planning process and help shift your ideas about what curriculum can be and how to get there over time. Students get periodic feedback on how they’re doing through tests, quizzes, projects, and assignments. But grades typically aren’t used as part of an ongoing discussion about goals and learning.

Educators empowered with UDL guidelines can create responsive curriculum and instruction that meaningfully accommodates the nuances of a diverse student body. Classrooms today are a tapestry of differences - in abilities, cultural backgrounds, and learning preferences. Teachers face the challenge of honoring high expectations for all, while also recognizing this diversity. UDL is about being proactive, not reactive; it's about designing with the foresight of these needs in mind. It is through adherence to these principles that UDL successfully fosters an inclusive learning atmosphere where barriers are systematically identified and dismantled.

Explore this chart that compares UDL and traditional education side by side (opens in a new window). By applying UDL principles, teachers can effectively instruct a diverse group of learners. They do this by building in flexibility in the ways learners can access information and in the ways students can demonstrate their knowledge. The ultimate goal of UDL is to develop “expert learners” who are purposeful and motivated, resourceful and knowledgeable, and strategic and goal-directed. Some subjects directly teach learners to understand codes, notations, or symbols. For example, math instruction involves learning how to read, write, and solve equations.

It was designed by Dallas architect Jon Carsey, who was influenced by the Paris Exposition of 1925. When it opened, the Municipal Bath House (as it was then known) was used by the citizens of Dallas as an escape from the summer heat. There was a sandy beach that extended from the building out into the lake, locker rooms on the ground floor and concession stands in the basement. In 1958 the Bath House closed and swimming was prohibited to allow the lake to be used as a water supply for the city.

After closing in 1953 when swimming was discontinued at the lake, the Bath House Cultural Center was reopened in 1981 with the support of neighborhood arts activists.
